Lawrence E. (Larry) Freeman, 71, died in St. John's Hospital in Springfield on Saturday, December 11, 2010, from complications of lung cancer. Larry was born April 20, 1939, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to E.S. and Mattie Freeman. As a Colorado Native, he loved the mountains. He moved with his parents back to their home state of Missouri as a child and was educated here. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He was active in the community. He served on the Springfield City Council, was chairman of the City of Springfield legislative committee and lobbied on behalf of the City in Jefferson City and Washington, D.C. He was a member of various boards and committees including the Springfield Park Board, vice chairman of the Zoning and Planning Commission, and served as chairman of the Board of Equalization for Springfield-Greene County, and was a former member of The Missouri Governor's Club. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and Masonic organizations. He was a preservationist, and enjoyed restoring older buildings and home to "save" them. He served as president of the MidTown Neighborhood Association. He was also a member of the Rolls Royce Club of America, Veterans Motor Club of America, Greater Ozarks British Motor Club, and Colorado Native Club. Larry is survived by his wife, Jeannette; a daughter, Lauren Epperly and her husband, Greg; a son, Christopher and his wife Diane; three grandsons, Grant, Gavin, and Gage; and three step-grandsons. Visitation will be held in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home on Monday, December 13, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. Masonic services will be in the parish hall in Christ Episcopal Church at 12:30 p.m. prior to the funeral service at 1 p.m., on Tuesday, December 14.
