LaRue D. Wixson, 87, of Springfield passed away September 3, 2020. She was born December 10, 1932 in Paint Rock, TX. She married Bobby G. Wixson January 27, 1952. She received her B.A. from Sul Ross State University in Alpine, TX and taught Elementary School in Texas and Missouri for 25 years.

Rue and Bobby had the opportunity to travel to Europe, Russia, Poland, Australia, Tasmania, Israel, Italy, France, Britain, Panama, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Mexico and Brazil as well as Alaska, Hawaii and countries in the South Pacific. Rue was among the first women admitted to Texas A&M University while teaching in Bryan, TX and helping her husband complete his PhD degree at Texas A&M. Their life together was always a team effort.  Rue was a gracious hostess and supportive faculty and Dean's wife at the University of Missouri-Rolla for 21 years and Clemson University in South Carolina for 9 years. Rue enjoyed the love of her 100 to 1 Sunday School Family at Campbell United Methodist Church in her retirement years.

They then retired to Springfield, Missouri for the last 25 years to be close to their daughters, granddaughters and family.  Rue was a great Mom and the center of her family, a fun Mamaw and a loving GeeGee.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ada and Lemon Arnold.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Bobby G. Wixson of the home; daughters Linda Tucker (Joseph) of Kimberling City, MO and Bobbi Rue Wixson of Ozark, MO; granddaughters Kristin Fillingham (Joshua) of Springfield and Lindsay Todd (Garon) of Ozark and great grandchildren Isaac and Samuel Fillingham and Soren and Anderson Todd.

Private committal services will be held at Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Campbell United Methodist Church in Springfield.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Manor at Elfindale, Integrity Hospice and the home caregivers that all worked to make Rue's time with her family more enjoyable.
