Obituary

On June 13, 2026, Larry went to be with the Lord while surrounded by his loving wife and children in his home. Larry was born in Dyer, Tennessee on May 24, 1948, to Chester Swims and Claudine Swims (Applewhite).

Larry attended Pleasant Valley High School and Scott County Community College in Bettendorf, Iowa. From 1967 to 1971 he served as a surveyor and draftsman for the United States Air Force. Larry had many careers over his life from managing a service station, a machinist, remodeling houses, managing a farm, and driving a truck. Larry finally retired as Lead Mechanic working for Thompson Sales in Springfield, Missouri after 27 years.

Larry married Linda Swims (Hicks) on March 26, 1968. For 58 years where there was one you would always find the other. Their love for each other was truly unmatched. Together, they enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, boating, doing random projects around the house including building their home, and helping their family. Their most enjoyable experiences were traveling through the United States and Canada riding their Harley. Larry enjoyed anything that involved working with his hands, building and flying RC airplanes, models, woodworking, photos, playing music, doing yardwork, and creating incredible paintings. Larry had an unbelievable work ethic since age six where he grew up working on his grandparents’ cotton farm.

Larry was a devoted father of two sons and one daughter, David and wife Chris, Matthew, and Lisa. He has eight grandchildren; Emily, Grace, Devin, Caleb, Jordan, Brady, Riley, and Tyler. He also has three great grandchildren; Karsyn, Kolbey, Sienna, and a fourth on the way.
