Obituary

Larry Norman Frost passed away on July 3rd, 2018, at The Manor at Elfindale, due to complications from Alzheimer's disease at the age of 76.  He was born in Osceola, IA on January 31,1942, to parents Helen and Miles Frost.

Larry's family moved to Denver, CO when he was 5 because he and his sister had asthma.  His talent for art and music was observed at an early age and continued throughout his life.  He attended the University of Colorado for one semester, then left to play in a local band, The Sonics, who recorded one hit record, "Swinging at the Top" before they disbanded.  He continued to play drums and piano in the Denver area for many years.

Larry had a great talent for puppeteering. He crafted his own puppets and sets in addition to writing the scripts.  He appeared on a local tv station (Channel 2) in Denver for a few years.  His puppets were also featured in local commercials.  Keeping hands busy, he began sculpting with paper mache and fiberglass.

In 1990, Larry moved to Branson, MO to work at Silver Dollar City, making outdoor sculptures for the train ride, the Plunge, and other outdoor attractions.  He also worked for Bass Pro making sculptures for their theme parks.  Some of his work required traveling. He worked for Don Moore Design Group in Ft. Lauderdale, where he built a 20 foot "King Kong" sculpture for McDonald's.  It was featured on a boat in their annual boat parade eating a McDonald's hamburger. He continued to work with them off and on for several years. He also created artwork in New Orleans, LA for Mardi Gras.  After many years of working with fiberglass, his asthma returned, and he was not able to continue his art in that medium.

Larry had always loved to draw. While in Denver, he wrote and illustrated his own cartoon strip, titled "Bernie Bridges".  He also drew political cartoons for the Denver newspaper.  After giving up his work in fiberglass, he dove into writing and illustrating stories.

Larry had a brilliant mind and a great memory until the Alzheimer's took it away. In addition to art and music,  he was keenly interested in history; specifically WWII. His interests also encompassed science, philosophy, religion, politics, and silent films. He had strong opinions and was very outspoken. He loved a good debate, especially when followed by a handshake. Larry's compassion for animals was also well known. He always had pets and was very concerned about animal welfare.

Larry joined Linda Latimer in marriage in Jan 1995, and will be remembered as a very kind, supportive, and loving husband. He is survived by his wife Linda, 3 stepchildren: Lori Austin of Overland Park, KS, Skip Austin and wife, Susan of Hollister, MO and Jasper Austin of Springfield, MO, one grandson Tyler Tuckness and wife Renu of Kansas City, MO, sister Wanda Sneath and husband Jon of Salina, KS and sister Sharon Crosby and husband Dale of Denver, CO, and life-long friend Ken Mowery of Denver. CO.

The family would like to thank the outstanding staff of The Manor at Elfindale for their kindness and loving care, as well as Dr. John Marshall for his continued friendship and support, and Hospice Compassus.
