Kevin Ray Kelso went home on June 13, 2026, at the age of 59. He was born in Alton, Illinois, on February 24, 1967. Kevin grew up a natural protector, a role he carried proudly throughout his life. He built a life shaped by faith, family, creativity, generosity, love, and laughter—along with the strength that comes from facing life’s struggles with courage.

He leaves behind the mother of his children, Pamela Michele Kelso, and his children: Matthew Kelso (Stacey), Whitney Layton (Stephen), Gavin Kelso, Gabriel Kelso, and Kody Kelso. His grandchildren; Aria, Cynthia, Bristol, Kairi, and Kaya who brought him endless joy. He is also survived by three brothers: James Kelso, Anthony Kelso, and Michael Kelso; several nieces and nephews; and one niece especially dear to him, Samantha Popplewell, who spoke with him every day without fail and shared a rare and cherished friendship. He is also survived by his mother, Donna Kelso Downey.

Kevin was preceded in death by his father, James Kelso, and by multiple precious grandbabies who, without a doubt, greeted him at Heaven’s gates. We take comfort imagining them now playing and dancing together on streets of gold.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Monday, June 22 at 1 p.m. for a celebration of Kevin’s life at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home (1947 E. Seminole). Following the service, those who loved Kevin most are invited to a BBQ-style picnic at Michele’s home to celebrate in true Kevin fashion; sharing joy, stories, and memories.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Landmark Church in Strafford, MO, a place dedicated to meeting the needs of the community Kevin cared for so deeply.
