Obituary

Kevin Everett Henderson was the first son, born to William and Virginia Henderson on August 1, 1957, in Queens, New York.  He departed this life on February 17, 2025.

When Kevin was still quite young his family relocated to Chicago Illinois, and he spent most of his young life in the south suburb of Park Forest, Illinois.  There he attended Algonquin and Dogwood Elementary Schools, He graduated from Rich Central High School in Olympia Fields, Illinois in the summer of 1975. After graduation, Kevin immediately enlisted in the United States Army where he traveled all over the world and was honorably discharged on June 21, 1979.
While Kevin called Chicago his home, he also spent time in California, Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, New Hampshire and ultimately, Springfield, MO.  There he utilized his entrepreneurial skills and opened and successfully managed his own tool company, Tap Enterprises for many years.

Kevin was an avid music lover and was an outstanding guitar player.  His favorites in music varied from B.B. King to Sam Cooke to Michael Jackson, Prince and more.  His most joyful moments were those spent having a nice barbeque with friends and family and listening to his favorite music. He also was a very committed Chicago White Sox Fan.

Kevin was preceded in death by his grandparents William Henderson Sr, and Ana Mae Henderson, his parents William Henderson Jr, and Virginia B. Henderson, his nieces Domonique Charisse Godbee and Doriane Elizabeth Godbee. Kevin leaves to mourn, his four children, Shatzie Henderson, Kendra Henderson Rosenbaum, Katelyn Henderson Briggs and Kendall Henderson, his grandsons Lachlan and River and sons-in-law, Josef and Brandon.  He also leaves behind his siblings, Karen "Brandi" Wheeler, Keith Merritt Henderson and Kimberly Henderson Godbee, along with a host of endless friends and extended family.  Kevin's last months were spent at the Ozark Nursing Center, under the care of Compassus Hospice. We wish to thank them for their support in his end of life journey.

One of Kevin's favorite songs was "Jesus is Love" by the Commodores. May we all take solace in knowing that he was emotionally and spiritually ready to meet his heavenly maker in peace and without fear.  May we also continue to embrace that song and its true meaning as we keep him in our thoughts this day and the many days to follow.
