Kent A. Compton, D.D.S., passed away peacefully November 30th, 2023 in his home surrounded by his family.

A native Springfieldian, he attended Sunshine Elementary School, Jarret Junior High School, and Springfield Senior High School. He graduated from Drury College in 1957 where he was a member of Sigma Nu. He was a graduate of the University of Missouri Dental School in 1960. He served in the U.S. Public Health Service attached to the U.S. Coast Guard from 1960-1962.

Dr. Compton was a member of the Springfield, Missouri and the American Dental Societies. He practiced in Springfield, Missouri from 1962 to 2002, ably assisted by Elaine Bradley and sharing an office with Dr. H.L. Stanton.

In retirement, he delivered with Meals on Wheels for 20 years. He enjoyed travelling extensively with his wife, Bernie, as well as extended family.

Dr. Compton is survived by his wife Bernie and daughters Cara and Cristin. Additional survivors include: nephews Rick Fay (Tracy) and Frank Fay (Cindy); niece Felicia Whitaker (Steve); great nephew Buddy Fay (Nikki), and great-great nephew Forrest Fay.

The family extends thanks to the staff at Cox Health at Home Hospice.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 11, 2023 from 12-2 PM in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Private family burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery.
