Kenneth Walter Kraft, age 89, of Springfield passed away at Cox South on the 18th of January after a short illness. He was retired after serving as Director of Businesses Services for the Springfield Public Schools for 25 years. He served as a Second Lieutenant in the Medical Administration Corps during World War II. Kenneth graduated from the Teachers College (now MSU) and pursued a degree in business at the University of Denver, becoming a CPA. He was an active member of Schweitzer United Methodist Church. He was a loyal member of the Downtown Kiwanis for 43 years and served on the board of directors for the Campfire Girls Organization. He was a volunteer at Cox Walnut Lawn. Kenneth was preceded in death by a son, Steven Linney Kraft in 1976. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Maralyn Kraft; son, Kevin Kraft; daughter, Sheri Myer and husband, Travis; daughter-in-law, Sarah Ernst and husband, Ralph; six grandchildren, Donnie Kraft, Shawn Kraft and wife, Alison, Caleb Kraft and wife, Lisha, Micah Kraft, Samantha Myer, and Ethan Myer; and four great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, January 21 in Schweitzer United Methodist Church, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Burial will be at the White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, January 20 in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Downtown Kiwanis Foundation for the building of a playground for the handicapped.
