Highfill, Sr.
November 24, 1939 – February 7, 2025
Kenneth Gerald Highfill Sr., 85, of Springfield, MO, passed away surrounded by family into his heavenly home on Friday, Feb. 7th, 2025.
He was born Nov. 24, 1939, in Fair Grove, MO. He was a graduate of El Camino Junior College. Ken was a hardworking family man that was dedicated to his wife and children. He enjoyed a 42 year long career with the Frisco/Burlington Northern/Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad where he made many friends. Ken enjoyed a successful registered polled-hereford farm in Humansville, MO for decades & farming remained Ken's true love. Often joking with his railroad friends that working there was just to support his farming habit.
Ken was saved at age 16 at Black Oak School during a revival held by Brother Web Foster. He was baptized in Pomme De Terre river shortly after and became a lifelong member of Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Ken was a member of Pleasant Ridge Cemetery Board, Humansville Road District & the Union President and Chairman of Local 419 Sheet Metal Workers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Ransom Highfill and Laura Helen (Wommack) Highfill; his brother, Harold Highfill; brother-in-laws, Harry Ohanian and Robert Menacho.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Alice Eugenia (Meacham) Highfill; his children and their spouses: Laura and John Berry of Strafford MO, Elaine and Joel Montgomery of Springfield MO, and Kenneth and Barbara Highfill of Tecumseh KS; his sisters: Florene McNeil of Springfield MO and Linda McGinnis of Buffalo MO; his grandchildren and their spouses: Brandy and David Rice, Robby and Amanda Snyder, Rachel Pellham, Rebekah and Austin Lebahn, Eric and Cristen Snyder, Robert and Veronica Germann, Brittany and Chris Childs, and Ransom Germann, as well as 17 wonderful great-grandchildren.
Though Ken is no longer physically with us, his spirit lives on in the love he shared, the laughter he brought and the lessons he taught us all.
His smile and memories will remain with us forever.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, 5644 S. 244 Rd., Fair Grove, MO 65648.
