IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kenneth
Frederickson
November 19, 1920 – June 28, 2017
Kenneth Warren Frederickson, 96 of Springfield, Missouri, passed away Wednesday morning, June 28, 2017 in Ozark, MO. He was born November 19, 1920, near Cuba, Missouri, the son of the late George Albert and Lora Ellen Ferris Frederickson. He graduated from Cuba High School and entered Southwest Missouri State University, meeting Dorothy Jean Campbell, his future wife. He then joined the Navy, going to Officer Candidate School at Northwestern University and was deployed in the Pacific as the commander of an LCT (aboard an LST). His fleet was sailing to invade Japan when WWII ended. Ports of call included Saipan, Pearl Harbor, and Okinawa, and he sailed through Halsey's typhoon. After WWII, Kenneth remained in the Naval Reserve for 22 years.
Upon his return from WWII, he continued his courtship of Dorothy Jean Campbell who was then teaching music in Cuba, MO. They married on June 2, 1946 in Rogersville, Mo. He continued his education with a B.S. in Industrial Arts from Central Missouri State University, a B.S and an M.S. in Education from Pittsburg (Kansas) State University. He received his Counselor certification from SMSU, and Specialist degree from the University of Missouri.

He taught industrial arts and drivers ed at Central HS 1953-7 and began teaching math at Parkview High School in 1957. He remained at Parkview as a Teacher, Counselor, and Dean of Boys until he retired in 1983. He was a strong supporter of Industrial and Technical education believing in equally strong technical/trade programs as college prep curricula. In the mid-1960s, he also served as the Naval Academy's representative to Missouri. Arkansas, Kansas, and Oklahoma, leveraging both his naval and educational experience.
Mr. Frederickson was also a talented woodworker, both building beautiful walnut furniture for his home as well as walnut hope chests and file cabinets for his children and grandchildren. He also designed and built the family home in which he lived for 48 years. But his greatest role was his love and support for his wife, Dorothy Jean, especially in her music endeavors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 11 brothers and sisters.
