IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kenneth Darrell
Copeland
October 22, 1928 – August 25, 2022
Kenneth Darrell "Darrell" Copeland went to his heavenly home on Thursday, August 25, 2022. He was born on the family farm near Aldrich, Missouri, on October 22, 1928, to Everett and Cordia (Welsh) Copeland. Darrell was united in marriage to Betty Jean (Hopkins) Copeland on November 12, 1950, in Fair Play, Missouri. He graduated from Fair Play High School and later served in the United States Army from 1951-1953, with a rank of Sergeant 1 st Class, spending 13 months in Korea in the 39 th Field Artillery, 3 rd Division. After his return from Korea, he attended barber college in Kansas City and worked as a barber there beginning in 1955. After moving to Springfield, Missouri, Darrell owned and operated Sunshine Barber Shop from 1962 to1994. After selling his shop and "retiring," Darrell continued to work part-time for other barber shops in Springfield and occasionally could be found giving someone a haircut in his garage.
Darrell trusted Christ as his Savior as a young adult and was a member of Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church and later was a member of Southgate Baptist Church. He served in many capacities at both churches. In his younger days, Darrell loved to hunt and fish and bowled on a local bowling team for many years, but in his later years golfing with his brother and a large contingent of their friends consumed most of his days until mobility issues prevented him from playing. He loved sports of all kinds and was a fan of St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Missouri State basketball.
Darrell is survived by his wife Betty, son Rex and his wife Jan Copeland, grandsons Sean, Seth and Luke Copeland, sister-in-law Barbara Copeland and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Max Copeland and his niece Terry Cramer, as well as his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bill and Twila Hopkins. Visitation will be at 11:00 a.m. followed by service at noon on Friday, September 2, 2022 in Gorman-Scharpf. Darrell will be interred at the Veteran's Cemetery of Missouri in a private burial.
