Obituary

Kenneth Robert Carter, age 87, of Springfield, MO passed away at 2:00 a.m. September 8, 2015 in his home in Springfield, MO with his wife, Lorene by his side. He was born August 21, 1928 in Hooker, MO to Pete and Dora Carter. He went to school in Dixon, MO and at the age of 16 went to work for the Frisco Railroad. Kenneth worked for the railroad for 46 years in the Communications Department, retiring in 1992. He married Lorene May Sloan in April 1951. They had one daughter, Crystal Ann Carter. Kenneth served in the Army and was stationed in Korea in 1952. He lived in Lebanon, MO for 8 years then, moved to Springfield, MO in 1961. He loved fishing, gardening and wood working projects. But most of all he loved his family and good friends. Kenneth was a kind man with a generous heart. He always wanted to help others in whatever way he could and was a big, strong man, but with the most gentle ways about him. Kenneth was a member of South Haven Baptist Church since April 1961. He was a Mason and a Shriner. He was also a member of the Breakfast Optimist Club for many years. He also drove school buses part time for several years. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents Pete and Dora Carter and sisters Mildred Felkerson and Norma Russell. He is survived by wife Lorene Carter of Springfield, MO; daughter Crystal Ramos and husband Gerald of Ozark, MO; step-granddaughter and family Robin Napper, Seymour, MO; sister Erma Hance, Coustine, CA; sister and brother-in-law Vivian and Yarol Thompson, Dixon, MO; brother and sister-in-law Arlie and Helen Carter, Dixon, MO; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Steve and Cheryl Sloan, Jefferson City, MO and Wayne and Joyce Sloan, Dixon, MO; sister-in-law Willow Johnson, Middlebrook, MO; and a whole host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins. Funeral Services will be Friday, September 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with the Rev. Ryan Palmer officiating. Burial will be in Clifty Cemetery in Dixon, MO. Visitation will be Thursday, September 10, 2015 from 6 to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
