Kay Francis Meeker, 85, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2024.
Kay was born on October 15, 1939, in Ash Grove, Missouri, to William Thurman and Myrtle (Bolin) Floyd. She graduated from Central High School in Springfield and went on to live a full and wonderful life.
Kay had an incredibly kind heart, always offering an abundance of love and support to those around her. She had a passion for helping others. In her early years, she worked at Consumer Grocers and Commerce Bank before deciding to become a homemaker. Later in life, she joined her son as a partner in Sunshine Bike Shop, dedicating many years to carrying on his legacy. Kay was the heart and soul of the bike shop, never missing an event and always connecting with customers by providing coffee, cookies, and conversation. In 2006, she founded the Kevin Umlauf Scholarship Foundation, blessing many students with college scholarships in her late son's honor.
Kay was a devoted member of Second Baptist Church for many years, where she participated in the choir. Her faith in Jesus was evident in the way she lived each day. Her family was the center of her world, and her grandchildren were the apple of her eye. She cherished every moment spent with them, loving and nurturing each one. Kay was also an exceptional cook and took pride in tending to her beautiful flowers, which were admired by all. She had a contagious laugh, a warm smile, and a beauty that radiated inside and out. Known for staying active, Kay always had a project on hand and kept her car spotless. She enjoyed evenings watching Jeopardy and Dancing with the Stars.
Kay is survived by her sons, Kenton (LuAnne) Umlauf and Kory Umlauf and his wife Neuvelle; her sisters, Janice Floyd and Shirley Stewart; her grandchildren, Jenna (Colby) Fairfax, Jerra (Anthony) Ferrara, Logan (Alicia) Umlauf, Blake Umlauf, and Grant Umlauf; and her great-grandchildren, Chloe and Jaxson Fairfax, and Taysom and Presley Ferrara.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Myrtle and Thurman Floyd; her son, Kevin Umlauf; and her siblings, Earl Wayne Floyd, Donald Floyd, Joyce Harriman, Berl Floyd, Linda Faye and Glenda May.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 30, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
Kay's legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will forever be cherished by all who knew her.
