IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kay Marie
Kerby
December 10, 1935 – June 13, 2022
On June 13, 2022, our beloved mother passed away peacefully at home into the arms of Jesus with loved ones by her side.
Kay Marie Kerby was born to Hazel and John Niederhuth on December 10, 1935, in Springfield, Missouri. She attended Central High School and Southwest Missouri State University, later working at Graybar Electric. She married Russ Robinson and they had two children, Kathleen and Russell. In 1969 she married Cecil Harold Kerby and they spent nearly fifty happy years together until his death in 2019.
Kay was a gifted artist, craftsperson, gardener, and seamstress, and was very athletic. The family owned a cabin on Table Rock Lake and spent many summers fishing and waterskiing. Back in town, she was an avid bicyclist and played a superior game of tennis. When Cecil retired, the two of them set off in a motorhome to camp, hike, and explore the National Parks across America.
As a member of First Baptist Church, she taught Bible School, and the family was active in the many activities hosted by the church. After the kids left home, Kay and Cecil served as hosts to students from India and Africa through the International Friends program. In more recent years, the couple enjoyed their membership at University Heights Baptist Church.
Kay was a bundle of energy with a positive attitude, strong and healthy far into her 80's, so it was a shock to her family and her many dear friends when she was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Her laughter, her bright eyes and smile will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her sister Patty Lou Brown, and survived by her children, Kathleen Robinson Wirt and Russell V. Robinson, her brother Jerry Lee Goss (Evy), niece Cindy Springer, nephews Darrell and Kelly Goss, grand-nieces and nephews Amanda Goss, Ashley Kautzman, Reid Goss, Rylee Phillips, and four great-grand- nieces and nephews.
There will be a short graveside service at 10:00 am on Friday, June 17, 2022, at Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Springfield, where she will be interred beside her beloved husband Cecil. A reception will be held following at the family home. Online condolences may be made at www.gormanscharpf.com. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Sierra Club at act.sierraclub.org/donate
