Obituary

Kathryn Driscoll-Waters, 79, passed away peacefully in her home on November 27, 2014. Katie was born on February 7, 1935 in Birmingham, Alabama to Alger Morgan and Oma Armstrong Robertson. She graduated from Woodlawn High School in Birmingham in 1953 and attended Auburn University to pursue a degree in Elementary Education. It was here that she met Paul John Driscoll, who preceded her in death on May 2, 1995. She graduated in 1957 and wed Paul on December 21, 1957. She taught elementary school in Virginia, Tennessee, and Alabama. In 1962, she and Paul settled in Springfield, Missouri. It was here that she had her two children, Diana Lea Robinson and Jeffery Wayne Driscoll. Katie was an active member in the Springfield community and enjoyed serving on the board of many different organizations. She was a pillar in the Springfield community, and in her leisure time enjoyed social events with her friends. Her greatest joys in life were her family and friends. She was selfless in her actions, often putting the people she loved most before herself. She offered wonderful words of wisdom about the world today and exemplified the true meaning of a woman of class. To our southern belle, your family thanks you for the heartwarming memories and for showing us the true meaning of family. After the Passing of Paul in 1995, Katie met Edwin C. Waters on October 6, 2007. They wed on October 6, 2012 in Sedona, Arizona. It was a life event that neither of them expected, and in the seven years that they have had the privilege of knowing one another, they have found joy and solace in the world. Edwin is incredibly thankful for the time he was given with her. Katie is survived by her husband, Edwin Carey Waters; her son, Jeffery Wayne Driscoll; grandchildren, Mason Kamil Driscoll, Alesha (Steve) Johnson, Amie (Brett) Fisher, Christopher (Lauren) Robinson, Rebecca (Joshua) Waymire, and Blake Robinson; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Sharon Hollis and Al Robertson of Atlanta, Georgia, Mike (Priscilla) Robertson of Huntsville, Alabama, and Randy (Kim) Hollis of Birmingham, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul John Driscoll, daughter Diana Lea Robinson, parents Alger and Oma Robertson, sister Margaret Smith, and brother A.M. Robertson. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, December 2, at 1 pm at Schweitzer UMC with Reverend Jim Mason officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Monday in the Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Burial will be held at a later date in Rivermonte Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hickory Hills Elementary School Teachers Fund.
