Katherine "Kitty" H. Winslow owner of Winslow Health and Diet Foods on South Glenstone Avenue in Springfield was born on November 1, 1921 in Koblenz, Germany. She passed away Sunday, September 6, 2009 in a peaceful departure to Heaven. She was loved and cherished by her family and her many friends. She has joined her late husband, Dale T. Winslow, Jr. (1972). She owned and operated a ceramics store and her label was known to many as AKayWin Ceramics. She loved to help people learn to make ceramics. She was always encouraging everyone to be creative in their lives. Kitty was also a licensed cosmetologist and owned her own salon, K-Win, in Springfield before the family moved to St. Louis, Missouri. Kitty and her husband, Dale purchased a health food store on Glenstone Avenue in 1968 upon their return to Springfield. They renamed the store Winslow Health and Diet Foods and that name remained until closing the doors in 2007. Kitty always had her family working with her in the early days her daughter, Anita worked in the store. Later her daughter, Sharon, son-in-law, Mike and grandson, Michael along with his wife, Becca worked with her. Kitty was the most positive, loving, kind and generous person anyone could hope to meet in a life time. She always loved doing things for other people and helping people in any way she could. She would always say she was having a great day and took each minute to bless everyone and see the beauty in all her surroundings. Kitty is preceded in death by her husband Dale T. Winslow, Jr. (1972); her Mother, Josephine Winslow, Father-in-law, Dale T. Winslow, Sr.; her sister Judith Goodman; and her sister Joanna Moranto of St. Louis, MO who, recently passed away September 4, 2009, just days before her. Kitty is survived by her son Don of Kansas City; her daughter Anita and husband Leo Tokarczyk of Springfield along with granddaughter Christina and her husband Joseph Thomas of Overland Park, Ks; Kitty's daughter Sharon and husband Michael Trent, Sr. along with grandson Michael Jr. and wife Becca Trent all of Springfield; her son Ed, and his family Lynda, Katherine and Amanda Winslow all of Ozark, Mo., Bryon Campbell of Manhattan Kansas. She is also survived by her sister Kay and Bob Dunaway and their family of Georgia. Our family would like to thank the wonderful care and compassion shown to Mom and our family at the Elfindale Manor Nursing Facility. Each person who worked with Mom was so helpful and truly caring that we will miss seeing each of you very special people. Graveside services will be Thursday, September 10, 2009 at 11:00 AM in Springfield National Cemetery under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel.
