Obituary

Karolyn Virginia (Davis) Holdren entered into a peaceful world on August 10, 2022 from complications from pneumonia. Her spirit can be found in a quiet forest, floating on an Ozarks stream or in a field of wildflowers. She was born on June 11, 1934 in Rowlesburg, WV to Fred and Nina Davis and lived in Indiana before moving to Springfield in 1951. Following graduation from Senior (now Central) High School, she married Cliff Holdren in 1952 and became the mother of two wonderful children, Christine Lynne and Clifford Bruce (Debbie).

She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her children; sisters Maryanne (Joel) Blackford and Nancy (Joe) Davis; brother, Jim (Amy) Davis; granddaughters Shannon and Chelsea Holdren and many nieces and nephews.

Karolyn retired following 30 years of service at Drury University as Assistant to the Vice President for Administration and earned her bachelor's degree in Art History at that institution. She was an avid Drury Panther and St. Louis Cardinal fan. She volunteered for many organizations over the years, including the Art Museum, Boys & Girls Clubs, Drury Auxiliary, Camp Fire, several Springfield City Boards, PTA and the Dickerson Park Zoo. Her time recently was mostly spent with the Springfield Plateau chapter of Missouri Master Naturalists.

Karolyn wanted no visitation nor funeral. Cremation was prearranged through Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. She asks that her special friends plant a native flower, shrub or tree for her and remember her with smiles. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Boys & Girls Clubs, 1410 N Fremont, Springfield, MO 65802.
