JW Mount, DEd, 88, of Springfield passed away on August 13, 2014 at Cox Medical Center. He was born September 23, 1925 in Harrison, AR to George and Elsie (Villines) Mount. During WWII he served in the US Navy. He was a member of Glenstone Baptist Church where he was a deacon and SS teacher for many years. Dr. Mount taught over 40 years, primarily teaching physics and math at Parkview and Kickapoo High Schools, SMU, and Drury College. He is remembered for his competitive nature in games and sports, especially bridge and golf and his lifelong love of learning, having degrees from 3 different institutions and constantly reading. He enjoyed photography, traveling, hiking, Bible study and fishing. His carpentry skills are reflected in many pieces of furniture, homes, and picture frames, as well as his volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters. Dr. Mount is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Wasson Mount; his daughter Shara Mount McBee, her husband John and his grandson Ian McBee of Albuquerque, NM; his daughter Bea Mount Miller, her husband Tony and his granddaughter Amy Miller of Springfield; step-grandson Denver Miller and his wife Jennifer of Bolivar; step-granddaughter Laura Miller of Springfield; his sister Grace Kirkpatrick of Little Rock, AR; his sister-in-law Edith Wampler and aunt Bernice Martin (age 101) of Harrison, AR; his brother-in-law Norman Wasson of West Fork, AR; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 18, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
