We are celebrating the LIFE of Justin Faulkne
Justin was a loving son to his devoted Mother, Karen Jones. She went into labor on Thanksgiving Day and he was born Friday morning, November 26, 1982. She wrapped him in her arms and her life was forever changed. Four years later he became a proud Big Brother to Jessica. Karen married Richard Jones in 1994 and they became a family.
Justin had a kind and gentle spirit. He felt the top of the mountains and the depths of life to the fullest. Justin loved the outdoors. He tried out every sport and was a Cross-Country runner in his youth. He loved camping, hiking, and skiing in Colorado.
Justin was a protector. He was in college at SMSU at the time of September 11, 2001. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps the following year. He chose to go to war to fight for his country, just like his late Grandpa Rex did in the Korean War. He served in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom and in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom and received Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Certificate of Appreciation and Rifle Marksman Badge. Justin volunteered for all deployments and would say he didn't join the Marines to sit on a base. He was always eager to help.
Justin was a helper to others in any way that he could be. If you are lucky enough to know Justin, he was sure to make you laugh. He was a good friend to all and a loved neighbor in his apartment building.
Justin was a creator. He was an amazing artist and writer. He didn't have the patience to finish all of the work he started but when he did, it impressed. His favorite writing was poetry.
Justin loved his family more than anything. He was especially close to his Mom and Sister. They shared the love of the theater and went to many plays, movies and concerts together. He made them laugh so hard they cried. Many good memories have been shared with his family. He had family vacations at the beach. He played sports as a child with Richard and they shared the love of knives. He went to Metropolis as a child on a Boys Trip with his Uncle Mike and was a close companion to his late Grandmother, Elsie Smith.
Justin was a cherished Brother. He was there for his Sister in every way that one could be for another. They called each other Sisbro and Brosis, you couldn't have one without the other. He was an anchor for her throughout her entire life. They understood each other in a way that could not be matched. They held each other up during the challenges. They celebrated each other with pride. Justin even brought Jessica to the lake house where she found her soul mate, Travis. Justin was her advisor, her constant and Best Friend.
Justin loved being an uncle to his niece and nephew. He was always asking for pictures and updates. He was proud of Princess Mya's ballet skills and said Luca's dramatic acting will lead to an Oscar one day or land him in a sports arena. He never wanted to just get them toys, he wanted to pass on the love of music and art. For Christmas this past year "Uncle J" got Mya her first Hello Kitty Boom Box. Under strict instruction, it had to be pink. He gave her the Grace VanderWaal CD which Mya loves dearly and listens to every single night as she's going to sleep. And for Luca, he gave him his first coloring set.
Justin was a believer. He put on armor of strength and bravery for the many challenges he faced, and never once complained. Before his passing, he told his sister that he was reading and studying the Bible, and he knew God had a plan for him.
1 Peter 1:22 "Love one another deeply, from the heart."
Justin loved deeply and his family is full of love and pride for him.
We are naming a star after Justin as a way to honor him. Justin's spirit is with God and his light is shining bright now.
It is important to know that our lives and choices impact others. We all experience struggle and we encourage you to spread kindness, smile at strangers, focus on the positive, tell others how much you care about them, and live each day in a way that makes you proud.
Immediately following the Celebration of Life there will be a Military Ceremony to honor Justin Faulkner as a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
Justin's ashes will be laid to rest in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery by his family at a later date.
