IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Judy
Ollis
October 13, 1948 – March 21, 2020
Judy Jo Johnson Ollis, beloved wife, mother, and grandma, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2020. She was born October 13, 1948 to parents Audrey and Rodney Johnson. Judy grew up on a small family farm in Huzzah, Missouri with her older sister, Jackie. The family homestead—later named a Missouri Century Farm—was the center of life for her extended family. As a result, she was blessed to have close relationships with a number of cousins of similar ages.
Judy was educated in a one-room schoolhouse for elementary school and was later the salutatorian of her class at Steeleville High School. From there she moved to Springfield, Missouri to attended college at Southwest Missouri State University. After graduation she began working at IBM, where she met the love of her life, Joseph Dudley Ollis. They were married after a brief courtship and eventually had two sons, Christopher and Matthew.
While raising her family, Judy was deeply involved in her community. She served with the Junior League of Springfield for many years, eventually becoming President. She later Co-Chaired the KOZK Tele-Auction for Public Television and contributed to the fundraising efforts of the YMCA of Springfield. She also served on the Altar Guild at Christ Episcopal Church.
She is preceded in death by her Father and Mother, Rodney and Audrey Johnson; stepfather, Claude "Hack" Gibbs; sister, Jackie Cheatham; sister in law, Charlotte Ollis; and husband, Joe. She is survived by her two sons, Chris and Matt; daughter-in-law, Jessica; two grandsons, Fletcher and Campbell; brothers-in-law Larry Ollis [Fay], Jim Ollis, and Paul Cheatham; and a host of family and friends who miss her dearly.
Growing up on a farm, Judy became independent and self-motivated. She found great joy learning many practical trades working beside her father. Throughout her life, she was always confident doing her own construction, carpentry, and landscaping. Most recently she explored painting on canvas and had begun her first new work to occupy her time during the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Many will also remember Judy as a wonderful host who loved to entertain family and friends any time of year, but particularly in the summer months when it was warm enough to gather by the pool at her home. Birthdays, anniversaries, holidays and celebrations became a little more special when she was involved.
Judy and Joe loved to travel, and they went on many adventures together across the world. They truly loved each other's company and cherished their time together. They are now reunited and onto their next big adventure.
The Covid-19 Pandemic and economic shutdown prevented the family from holding a public service at the time of her passing. A private memorial service honoring Judy's life was held at Christ Episcopal Church on October 12, 2020. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Sanders Cemetery care of Clark Baker, Treasurer, 111 Trainer Cuba, MO 65453.
