IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Judy
Corry
June 19, 1944 – September 3, 2024
Judith "Judy" Lynn Corry went to heaven on September 3, 2024, at the age of 80, surrounded by her family. She was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, and dear friend to all who knew her. Judy was born June 19, 1944, in Akron, Ohio, to Dr. Edwin and Ethelyn Maier. Her childhood included time spent living in Liberia, Africa, Rochester, MN, and Arkansas City, KS, before settling in Oklahoma City, OK. After graduating from the University of Kansas with a BS in Nursing, she became an ICU nurse at KU Medical Center, where she met her future husband, Dr. Francis (Frank) Corry, a surgical resident at the time. They were married in 1968 and have celebrated 56 years of marriage. They moved to Springfield, MO, in 1970, where they settled and raised their five children.
Judy is survived by her husband Frank; her children David Corry and his wife Jill (Colorado Springs, CO); Christina Litherland and her husband David (Springfield, MO); Ann Schaller and her husband Kent (Springfield, MO), Janice Raley and her husband George (Colorado Springs, CO), and John Corry and his wife Jennifer (St. Louis, MO); and 14 grandchildren: Grace, Quinn, and Vivian Corry; Gavin, Garrett, and Griffin Litherland; Kylie, William, and Katelyn Schaller; Breanne and Lauren Raley; and Brandon, Ryan, and Logan Corry. Her sister Janet Maier and her sister-in-law Gaye Wilson also survive her. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert Maier.
Judy was a pillar of strength for her family and the consummate host of the annual Corry Family Thanksgiving dinner for 35-45 people until she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's 6 years ago. As an active member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church for 54 years, she sang with the choir and played hand bells. She devoted much of her time to the Medical Auxiliary, serving as president for both the Greene County and Missouri State Medical Societies, as well as holding many other leadership positions. Her impact was felt at Greenwood Laboratory School for over 38 years, where her 5 children and 6 of her grandchildren attended. She was an avid tennis player, ballroom dancer, and enjoyed water and snow skiing up to age 70. She earned her pilot's license and instrument rating in her 40s, traveling throughout the Midwest with her family. Judy spent her entire life caring for others; as a nurse, mother, grandmother, wife, sister, daughter, and friend. Many have said she was the most giving, selfless, and loving person they have ever known. She gained so much joy from being around those dear to her and in return she blessed them with ever-present encouragement, compassion, and love. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.
The memorial service is planned for Saturday, November 30 at 1 pm at First and Calvary Presbyterian Church in Springfield, MO with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
