Obituary

JT Gahm, age 88, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014 in his home after a short illness. He was born November 17, 1925 in Carthage, MO to Marvin and Lottie Jane (Clark) Gahm. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harold Gahm; and two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Gahm and Susan Kay Gahm. He is survived by his bride of 67 years, Jacquelyn of the home; sisters, Charla Hogue of Riverside, CA and Colleen White and husband Roger of Carthage, MO; son, Richard Gahm of Billings, MO; daughters, Nancy Simpson of Republic, MO, and Sarah Britain and husband Pat of Everton, MO. Also surviving are grandchildren, Danielle and husband Chance Roper of Salem, Ark, Jack Taylor Gahm of Montrose, CO, John Simpson and wife Erin of Republic, Mo, Sarah Simpson and partner Todd Johnson of Springfield, MO, Carolyn and husband Jerry Hamilton of Republic, MO, Hannah and husband Beau Simpson of Willard, MO and Mike Gahm of Sandpoint, Idaho; great-grandchildren, Christian and Hadley Hamilton, Ava Jane Simpson and McKayla Simpson. During WW II he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was a gunner on a B29 based at Tinian in the Mariana Islands. He married Jacquelyn Cook in 1946 and spent the next four years working for Fruehauf Trailer Company in Missouri and California. In 1951, they returned to Springfield where he became co-owner of Custom Trailers, retiring in 1994 after selling the company to Polar Tank Corp. He loved hunting, fishing and especially golf with good friends. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Springfield, MO. Visitation will be Friday, May 16 from 6-8 pm at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 17 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will be at Missouri Veterans Cemetery Monday, May 19 at 10:00 a.m. The family would especially like to thank Dr. Keesag Baron, MD for the many years of wonderful care provided to JT. Memorial contributions made be made in honor of JT to Autism Speaks or Hospice Compassus.
