IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joyce
Rohrbaugh
November 4, 1933 – July 24, 2019
Joyce Emaline Rohrbaugh, daughter of Carl and Viola Kast Ammons of Aurelia, Iowa was born November 4, 1933. Joyce was born and raised in Aurelia where she graduated from Aurelia High School.
On November 17, 1951 she married Gerald (Jerry) Nick Rohrbaugh at the First Congregational Church in Peterson, Iowa. After their wedding, Joyce was a homemaker and Jerry started buying hogs at the Hog Buying Station. On July 25, 1952 their first son, Nick, was born and three years later son Rick was born on April 5, 1955. After ten plus years at home raising the boys, Joyce accepted a position as school secretary for Sioux Valley High School in Linn Grove, Iowa in 1965. Joyce cherished her years as secretary, always willing to be a good listener and gave great advice to all students that sat in her chair. In 1978, Joyce and Jerry sold their acreage above the river and moved to the farm north of town that Jerry's parents owned.
Joyce had several joys in life including gardening, farming with Jerry, and she always enjoyed entertaining when friends or family would stop by the house for coffee, lunch, or dinner. Upon her retirement after 30 years of service to the school system, Joyce moved to Springfield, Missouri to be closer to her immediate family. As with every other day of their marriage, Joyce spent her retirement years with Jerry close by her side. She spent countless hours caring for and cooking for her beloved sons, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends and family. She also continued her life long hobby knitting and crocheting blankets, scarves, and baby hats that she donated to the local hospital.
Joyce passed peacefully on July 24, 2019 at the age of 85 in her son Rick's home surrounded by immediate family members. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jerry, son Nick, daughter-in-law Barbara Rohrbaugh, and brother and sister-in-law Max and Peggy Ammons.
