Joyce Leota Hampton, 84, of Springfield, passed away Monday evening, October 25, 2021 at her home. She was born on December 5, 1936 in Lutie, MO to Hobert and Maxine (Hogan) Ledbetter. Arnold Hampton and Joyce Ledbetter were united in marriage at Gainesville, MO on December 5, 1954.
She was a member of First General Baptist Church. Joyce was baptized when she was 12 years old in the creek at Theodosia, MO. She was a 61-year member of Eastern Star Chapter 432 in Theodosia. Joyce graduated from Southwest Missouri State College in 1953 with a teaching certificate. She taught school in a one-room school house, all eight grades, at Dugginsville, MO. Joyce retired from St. John's Health Center in Springfield in 2002 after working there for 27 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; brothers Dwight and Travis Ledbetter; sister, Lena Hobbs (Rex).
She is survived by her son, Greg Hampton of Springfield; daughters Greta Pierce and Gayla Marafino (Christopher) of Springfield; grandchildren Christal Hampton, Bianca Pierce and Gabriel Marafino; great grandchildren Demara Hampton and Myla Chevis; great-great grandchildren Demani Hampton, Smya Hampton, Major Smith and Kamilah Smith and sister, Sue Baber of Springfield.
Joyce was a two-time breast cancer survivor. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her greatest love and passion was being "Nanny" and "Nana" to her wonderful grandchildren that adored her. Joyce loved to cook for her family and they sure loved it.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 31, 2021 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Monday, November 1 at 12:30 PM also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at 2:00 PM at Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Full obituary will be added soon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First General Baptist Church, 1400 W. Walnut, Springfield, MO 65806.
