Obituary

Joyce Estella Burns, age 82 passed away June 12th, 2022 in the evening in Springfield, MO.The funeral services will be held, Friday, June 17th, at one o'clock at North Side Assembly of God, located at 2310 North Campbell, Springfield, MO 65803. Visitation will be Thursday, June 16th from 5 o'clock to 8 o'clock in the evening at Gorman- Scharpf Funeral Home located at 1947 East Seminole, Springfield, MO 65804. Graveside service will be Tuesday, June 21st at one o'clock in the afternoon at the Veterans National Cemetery located at 5201 South Southwood Road, Springfield, MO 65804.

Joyce Estella Burns was born June 26th, 1939 in Windsor, Colorado to William and Vivian Owen. She was raised in a religious home with her sisters and brothers. She was taught the values of Christ. She was saved as a young child and kept her faith close to her heart until her last days. As a young lady she desired to be a minister with a calling on her life to be in the ministry. She attended Central Bible Institute to become a minister.

On July 18th, 1958, she married the love of her life, Wallace Burns in Springfield, MO. They shared a special love until her last days for 63 years. They had 3 beautiful daughters. JoLeesa, Teresa & Vivian. She loved her family deeply. She has a special place in her heart for all of her grandchildren and her great- grandchildren. She spent many years of her life caring and loving on her grandchildren. She always guided her family to keep their walk with Christ always close to their hearts.

She spent most of her days in service to others in the church she attended at North Side Assembly of God. She loved to speak encouragement and love into the people of the church who needed love and guidance in their faith.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, JoLeesa Harmon, her parents, Vivian Owen and William Owen and step-mother, Goldie Owen, her sister Wilmetta Sherertz, her brothers, Glen and Roy Briggs, her sisters, Margaret Hepner, Zelma Dorsey, Melba Ikenuoye, She is survived in death by her husband, Wallace Burns, Springfield, MO and daughters, Teresa Carter and husband Mark, Ozark, MO and Vivian Mooney and husband, Mike of Springfield, MO. her brother, Wayne Owen and wife, Nita of Springfield, MO. Her grandchildren, Merle and wife, Becky of Buffalo, MO, Leesa Taylor and husband Kris of Fair Grove, MO. MaKaylla Harris, Pensacola, Florida, Nathan Johnson and his husband, Dereck of Springfield, MO MerLeesa Cavin and her husband, Robert of Wahiawa, Hawaii. Alan Gookin of Springfield, MO. As well as many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

She was an extraordinary woman who was loved by many and she will be greatly missed. Her commitment to Christ was unwavering. Many lives of those she ministered to will forever be grateful to her commitment to servanthood and to lead others to Christ.
