Josephine Ann "Jody" Carson Luther, 75, passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2012. She was born June 17, 1937 in Springfield to John Melcher Carson and Frances Irene Johnson Carson. She attended St. Agnes School while in Springfield and was a graduate of Cardone Academy in Lexington, KY. She worked as an RN after graduating from Burge School of Nursing, was a teacher for several years after graduating with a BA in English from Washburn University in Topeka, KS, and was also a working artist after graduating with a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Arizona, retiring to Springfield in 2000. Josephine was preceded in death by her parents and a sister-in-law, Mary Kay Carson and an infant sister Catherine Irene Carson. She is survived by her husband Oliver Luther; brothers John Francis Carson and wife Terry Shawnee, KS, William Thomas Carson and wife Linda Austin, TX, George Everett Carson and wife Patty Willow Springs, MO, James Stanley Carson and wife Pat Overland Park, KS, Richard Edward Carson and fiancée Martha Broyles Springfield; sisters Mary Elizabeth Holke and husband Steven Springfield, Kathryn Muffley and husband Gary Asheville, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be held Friday, September 28, 2012 at 10:00 AM in St. James Episcopal Church under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with the Reverend's Charles Uhlik, Ross Stuckey, and Constance Tyndall officiating. No visitation is planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
