Joseph Warner Hicks, age 61 of Springfield, MO passed away at 1:30pm September 21, 2015 in Springfield, MO. He graduated from UMC (Columbia, MO) with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology and a Master's in Civil Engineering. Joe was employed for several years by MacDonald Douglas in St. Louis, MO designing military jets. He retired from MODOT where he was a bridge/road designer. He loved painting landscapes with oil on canvas. One of his works appeared in a local national juried show. He loved playing his guitars and was a big Beatles fan. He had a great sense of humor, which he loved to display among loved ones and friends. He loved animals and spoiled his dogs often. Joe was a member of the National Headache Society. He had a pilot's license and loved to fly. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph Warner and Louola Hicks; grandmother Algia Blankenship; maternal aunt Darlane Murray; and paternal aunts Viva Clas, Ava Blair and Mabel Sullinger. Joe is survived by his wife Gayle L. Hicks of Springfield, MO; daughter Andrea G. Bruner, Springfield, MO; sister Peggy Barker, Fayetteville, AR; niece Jennifer Braden, Fayetteville, AR; great-nieces Josephine Olivia Braden and Estella Pearl Braden, Fayetteville, AR; aunt Carol Marquart, Branson, MO; uncle Robert B. Murray Jr., Springfield, MO; and numerous cousins. Memorial Services will be held at 4:00pm Friday, September 25, 2015 at Schweitzer United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Mason officiating, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. No visitation is scheduled. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Southwest Humane Society, 3161 W.
