We lost our heartbeat. Our hearts are shattered, and we fear will never heal.

Joseph Eugene Portman, Jr. passed away Friday, February 28th, 2025, at Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon, Missouri.

Joe, as he was known by all, was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on March 22, 1948, to Joseph Eugene Portman, Sr. and Georgia Louise Dalsing Portman, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his great-niece Katie Portman, who was waiting at the gates for her Uncle Butch.

He passed in the arms of his wife, Becky while holding their daughter Corie's hand.

Also surviving are his nephew Steve Portman and his wife Brandy and their daughter Ava, all of Mound City, Missouri and their daughter Bayleigh and her son Carter of St. Joseph, Mo.

Two sisters also survive.

Graveside services with full military honors will be Monday, March 10, 2025, at 11:00 am at Missouri Veterans Cemetery 5201 S. Southwood Rd., Springfield, MO, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. No formal visitation is planned.

We will miss him immensely.
