Joseph R. Myer, age 87, of Battlefield, MO passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2013 in Missouri Veterans Home, Mt. Vernon, MO with his family by his side. He was born June 30, 1926 in Iola, KS to Homer H. and Ella Martin Myer. He graduated from Iola High School and served in the US Navy during WWII. He retired from the State of Kansas, Right of Way Department. Joseph was a past commander of American Legion Post 15, Iola, KS and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Isaac and Homer Jr. Joseph was married to Ida Belle Hamilton for 66 years. He is survived by his wife, Ida Belle of Battlefield, MO; two sons and their wives, Jerry Myer of Tampa, FL and Scott Myer of Springfield, MO; nine grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2013 in Highland Cemetery in Iola, KS with Father John Miller officiating. Online condolences may be left at gormanscharpf.com.
