John Edward Wolfe, M.D., 72, Springfield, passed away Monday, February 9, 2015 in Cox South. He was born February 23, 1942 in Wellington, Kansas, the son of Thole Edward and Ruby Maxine Hurst Wolfe. John graduated from Conway Springs High School in 1960. He went on to finish a degree in mathematics from Southwestern College in 1964, and his M.D. from the University of Kansas in 1968. He served in the U.S. Navy, stationed at Camp Pendleton during the Vietnam War. He began his career in medicine serving the community of Hutchison, KS, then went on to practice at Ferrell Duncan Clinic in Springfield, MO for more than 30 years before retiring in 2013. He was an avid sports fan, closely following the Chiefs, Jayhawks, and Royals. He also enjoyed being active, playing tennis for many years, followed by riding his bike and visiting the Meyer Center where he enjoyed seeing old friends and making new ones. He loved his children, and all 8 of his grandchildren dearly, attending soccer games and other events whenever possible. Those who knew John will always remember his infectious smile and sense of humor. Dr. Wolfe is survived by his loving wife, Diana Lee Wolfe; two sons and their wives, Justin Edward and Holly Wolfe; and Curtis John and Annie Wolfe; a daughter and her husband, Marci Joann and Jeff Waters; a brother and his wife, Jack L. and Bunny Wolfe; step-son, Jack L. Dempsey; and eight grandchildren, Ellee, Eli, Emery, Emil, Mackenzie, Bayli, Kennedy and Beckett. Funeral services with full Military Honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 13, 2015 in James River Church South Campus, Clark Chapel under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time Friday in the church. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 14, 2015 in Conway Springs Cemetery, Conway Springs, Kansas.
