Squires
November 24, 1935 – December 13, 2025
John Patrick Squires passed away on December 13, 2025 at the age of 90. He was born on November 24, 1935 in Springfield, MO to Everett and Elizabeth Squires.
John graduated from Springfield Senior High School in 1953 and attended the University of Missouri Business School where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity and ROTC. He met his beloved Anna Kate (Katie) Strom at Mizzou and they were married on February 22, 1958.
After serving in the Army for 2 years at Fort Sill, OK and Fort Lewis, WA, John returned to Springfield, MO and joined the family business. He managed Southern Materials Company and, later, SMC Electric Supply. John was an active member of his community. He was a long-time member of the Cox Hospital Board of Directors, serving as Chairman from 2006-2008; the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine; Royal Order of Jesters and National Avenue Christian Church. He was an avid Cardinals and Mizzou Tigers fan. He loved to travel, golf, attend the Springfield Opera and MSU basketball games, and to float and camp along the local Ozarks rivers.
John will be remembered for his kindness, his sense of humor, his big smile that always reached his eyes, and his joyful heart. He was a hard worker and loved his family passionately. We will all miss him checking in and asking, "Are you okay? Are you happy?"
John is survived by his children, Chris (Sue) of Sedalia, MO, Bill (Robin) of Springfield, MO and Katherine (Craig) Munson of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Michael, Tom (Megan), Megan (Jason), Ryan (Lauren), Pfeifer (Alec), Bay, Stephanie, Tim (Robyn), and Drew; great grandchildren, Charlie, Nick, Mason, Annie, Waylon, Rhett, Levi, Canon, and Sloane; and sister-in-law, Neanie Squires. He is preceded in death by his wife, Katie;parents, Everett and Elizabeth Squires; brothers, Charles and Sam Squires; and sister-in-law Patty Jo Squires.
A memorial service will be held at National Avenue Christian Church, 1515 S. National Avenue, on Friday, January 9th at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the CoxHealth Foundation, 3525 South National Avenue. Suite 204, Springfield, MO 65807 to benefit the Glauser Oncology Fund providing support for cancer patient services which John helped establish during his time on the Board.
