Mike was born in Springfield, Missouri on December 29, 1937 to J.E. Walter Scott and Ann Josephine (Ingersoll) Scott.  He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1954, and married Joyce Mae Vernon on a beautiful spring day on March 20, 1959.  Mike had several jobs early in his adult life but spent most of his career with the Frisco/Burlington-Northern Railroad, retiring in 1997.  Mike was a member of Glendale Christian Church for over 50 years.  Mike loved family time and playing games, traveling with his beloved wife Joyce, and was always up for a good dessert, especially walnut pie.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joyce, and his daughter Janet Lea.

He is survived by his daughter, Jo Lynne (Jodie) Chenoweth and husband Kelly of Joplin; four grandchildren - Lindsey Sjorlund and husband Malachi, Vanessa Lumby and husband Jacob, Scott Lea and wife Kathryn, and Sam Chenoweth and wife Bailey; as well as his sister Georgia White.  He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Lennox and Maddox Sjorlund, Josie Mae and Sawyer Chenoweth, and Arthur Lumby, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E. Seminole, Springfield, MO from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., with funeral services beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Services will be officiated by Troy Powell.  Grandsons Scott Lea, Sam Chenoweth, and Malachi Sjorlund; and nephews Gary Vernon, Paul White, David White, and John White will serve as casket bearers.

He will be laid to rest next to his wife Joyce in Hazelwood Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please honor Mike with a donation to Glendale Christian Church, 2110 S. Blackman Road, Springfield, MO 65809.
