John S. Young, 90, passed away on July 1,2009 after a short illness. He was born John Spurgeon Middleton on January 6, 1919, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Middleton. His mother died shortly after he was born and he was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. R .O. Young of Greenville, Il. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Elva Margaret. Surviving are their three sons and families, John Charles (Shirley) of Lewisburg, TN., Richard Nelson (Lanell) of Gladstone, MO., and Ronald Vincent (Linda) of Valdosta, GA; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a nephew, Lewis Young (Darla), Springfield; and many other nieces and nephews. John was a World War II Veteran, a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, a 48 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of Schweitzer United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2009, followed by a traditional Masonic funeral service at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 East Seminole, Springfield Missouri at 1:00 p.m. Visitation at the Young Funeral Home, Greenville, Illinois will be held at 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2009 will precede Interment in Mount Auburn Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. John's Hospice Care, 1378 East Republic Road, Springfield, MO 65807.
