Robinson
August 15, 1932 – February 6, 2019
John Richard Robinson, 86, of Springfield, passed away February 6, 2019. He was born in Knobel, AR on August 15, 1932 to Mildred and L.D. Robinson. He graduated from Knobel in 1950 and served in the Army, stationed in Korea. He attended Arkansas State University and the University of Arkansas and finally graduated from Harding College in Searcy, AR in 1969. John taught Social Studies at Oran High School from 1970 – 1995 when he retired. Previously, John had worked for Singer Sewing Machine Co and was Manager of Household Finance until he decided to return to Harding and finish his degree in Business. He then attended Southeast Missouri University to receive his teaching certificate.
John married Judith Heaton in Norton, KS on August 19, 1960. They had two children, Laura Diane (1962) and Richard Robert (1966).
John was preceded in death by his parents, sister Tica, son Rick, and 4 brothers-in-law.
He is survived by his wife Judy, daughter Laura McKean, 3 grandchildren; John Robinson (Molly), Katie McKean (Clay McLaughlin), and Matt McKean (Brooksie), 3 precious great grandchildren; Cooper McLaughlin, Annie Robinson, and Jaxon McKean, sisters Paula Hollis, Amanda Lane, and Ruth Durham, and sister-in-law Jean Washburn.
John volunteered for years at Fish Food Pantry in Cape Girardeau and Crosslines in Springfield. John was a member of Queen City Lions, VFW, and American Legion. John dearly loved his family. He loved his church, the students he taught, many friends, sports, politics, and reading. He will be missed by many. John loved life.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 4:00 PM at Campbell United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Campbell UMC or Crosslines. Online condolences can be left at gormanscharpf.com.
