Pierpont, Jr.
August 29, 1929 – March 8, 2021
John T Pierpont, age 91, of Springfield, Missouri passed away at 3:30 pm on March 8 th of 2021. John was born August 29 th , 1929 to Jesse and John T. "Tub" Pierpont in Springfield, Missouri.
John grew up in a family centered around public service and law enforcement. His father, John T. "Tub" Pierpont was the Greene County Sheriff until the 1930's. The influence of his beloved father would eventually shape him into the man we all know and love. John started his own law enforcement career as the U.S. Marshal for the Western District of Missouri, a position he held for eight years. In 1980, John was elected as Greene County Sheriff. Being the Sheriff of Greene County was a position that John took seriously and truly loved doing. John touched the lives of so many individuals in his time as Sheriff and continued to dedicate his life to the Citizens of Greene County until his retirement in 2000. John embodied what it means to be a leader in his lifetime, which is why he also served as the President of the Missouri Sheriff's Association as well as the National Sheriff's Association.
John was preceded in death by the love of his life and best friend, Sandra A. Pierpont of Springfield, Missouri whom he married on June 16 th , 1955 continued to be devoted to even after her passing. John was also preceded in death by his dear sister, Ellen Guy of Cave Springs, Missouri and her husband, Garry Guy.
John is survived by his two loving and devoted children; Catherine A. Pierpont of Tulsa, Oklahoma and John T. Pierpont III (Teresa Pierpont) of Springfield, Missouri; his cherished granddaughter, Annie Pierpont (Riley Crews) of Springfield, Missouri; his dear niece and nephew, Janie White and David Guy and their families; his treasured furry friends; Gus, Cappy, Hank, Truman and Mizzou. John also leaves behind many friends, fellow law enforcement members, loved members of First and Calvary, and adored citizens of Greene County.
Due to COVID, extended visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, March 12, 2021 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Public Graveside Service will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Maple Park Cemetery.
