IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John H.
Moore
October 14, 1944 – December 12, 2023
John Harrison Moore passed away December 12, 2023 at the age of 79.
He was born October 14, 1944 in Springfield, Missouri. He was the youngest child of Joseph and Mary Moore. John grew up in Mt. Vernon, Missouri and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School class of 1962. He was also a graduate of Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma where he earned his Bachelor degree in Business Administration. While in college, he excelled at the game of ping pong and was defeated only by the national champion of Hungary.
In 1969, John joined the United States Army and completed his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He was assigned to work in the Pentagon in the office of General Westmoreland. He was proud to have served in the military and be a veteran.
After completing his military service, John worked in sales for Moore Business Forms, then moved on to work for a small freight company called American Freightways, and then as a sales account executive for FedEx. He enjoyed talking to everyone and never met a stranger. He had a dry sense of humor and loved to make others laugh. Many of his friends describe him as "One of a Kind", which he surely was.
John had a passion for the game of golf, beginning when he was in high school and continuing throughout his life. He had a generous spirit and loved to play in charity golf tournaments. Many of his best friends were found through golf and it was much more to him than just a sport. Being outside and sharing the love of the game with others brought him immense joy and satisfaction. Especially on April 15, 1984 when he made a hole in one at Fremont Hills Country Club, of which he was a member for many years.
John was a devoted and loving father to his daughter Emily. He was a constant presence in her life and always showed up for her. He attended countless school performances and cheered her on through track meets, band concerts, and graduations. His encouragement never waned and he was not shy in expressing how proud he was of his little girl.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Moore, his brother Joe Moore, and his brother-in-law Bill Peterson.
John is survived by his daughter, Emily and her husband Dan Bogardus, her mother Ann Moore, sister Mary Kay Peterson, sister-in-law Waunita Moore numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.
