Obituary

John Eugene Metten, age 90, passed away at Cox Hospital on March 2, 2014. He was born March 27, 1923 in DuQuoin, IL. He attended school in Carbondale, IL at University High and the University of Southern Illinois. He served in the Navy in World War II, stationed at Pearl Harbor. He later was in manufacturing and sales and upon retirement was a disc jockey for radio station KTOZ featuring his love of Big Band music. He produced an audio series of "That Wonderful Year", covering the music and events of over 50 individual years. He is survived by his loving wife Joan; daughter, Pat Stockton, sons, Eddy and James Metten all of Dallas, TX; step daughter, Sandra Hanselman Benti; step-grandchildren, Jay Turner, Kim and Heath Tucci, great-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Gabriella, all of Connecticut, Julie and Michael Burdelmeier of California, Jayilyn and Matt Corna of Ohio. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 2:00 PM in Missouri Veterans Cemetery with The Reverend Kenneth Chumbley officiating under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel.
