John Anthony Mead passed away at St. John's Hospital, on June 25, 2011, at the age of 84, surrounded by his family, of lung cancer. He was a retired Command Sergeant Major and a veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. While serving in Vietnam, he was exposed several times to Agent Orange and felt that this contributed, if not caused, the cancer. He was a warrior and his awards and decorations were many. He leaves behind his wife, Gudrun, of over 60 years of married life. Also surviving him are his daughter, Josette Tilley and husband Mike; son, John and wife, Inge; granddaughter, Erika; son, Mark and wife Claire; and grandson, Grayson. As is his request, no visitation is planned and burial will be private with family members only.
