John David Matthews age 69, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on December 24. 2022 at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri after a long battle with cancer.
John was born on February 2, 1953, in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the son of Moorman Meador and Josephine Stojevich. James and Patricia Matthews adopted him.
On August 3 rd , 1974, John was married to Karen Kerr. John and Karen shared 48 years together.
John went to St. Agnes school in Springfield and graduated in 1972.
John is preceded in death his father, James Matthews; his mother, Patricia Matthews; his biological sister, Josephine Meador; his biological brother, Jimmy Meador; and his biological father, Moorman Meador.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Matthews; his daughter, Jennifer Matthews; his son, David Matthews (Megan Sharick); his sister, Marcia Brumfield; and two grandchildren, Dallas Greer and Ezra Matthews; niece, Patricia Kerr (Michael Brown); nephews, Chris Kerr (JoNeita Kerr), and Richard Brumfield (Danielle Brumfield).
He graduated from Catholic schools in Springfield in 1972. He went to work at General Electric shortly after that. John and Karen met while both working at General Electric. There was always this joke about the story of how they started dating. Some of his friends at General Electric said as a joke that Karen wouldn't go out with John. So, he asked her out. She said, yes!
When it came to John and his family, he loved them unconditionally and would do anything to help them. He wanted to be known for being fair and honest. He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren so very much. He was also a very private person.
He loved to fish on Table Rock Lake for bass. One of his other favorite things to do was to tinker with computers. He would take them apart and put them back together. He was also good at collecting nice watches.
