Obituary

John L. Hyde, 93, of Springfield Mo. passed away March 30, 2013 after suffering a massive stroke on March 24 in his home. John was born in Marshfield, Mo. on April 12, 1919 to Ivan and Edna (Yates) Hyde. He was married to Joan Jackson on April 22, 1942 in Las Vegas and they spent forty seven years together in Springfield, Mo. until her death on January 5, 1990. Mr. Hyde was a retired self-employed agent with the MFA Insurance Company, which later became Shield of Shelter Insurance. He filled his life with hard work, humor, intelligence, and love of family. During World War II John served in the United States Army Air Forces with the 47th Bombardment Squadron. He was stationed on the Philippine Islands and also served on aircraft carriers in the Pacific Ocean. In later years, he spoke proudly of this, and was a charter member of The National WWII Museum in New Orleans, La. John Hyde is survived by his two loving daughters, Diane Davidson (Hal) and Debbie Ellis (Gary); three grandchildren, Bethany Althoff (Travis), Emily Buhr (Kevin), and John Tyler Ellis; and two great- grandchildren, Alexander Althoff and Sonya Buhr. He will be forever in our hearts. Graveside service will be Friday, April 5, 2013 at 11 a.m. in Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Meals on Wheels or The National WWII Museum.
