John J. Hartman, 82 of Springfield passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2014. He was born in Kansas City, MO on June 5, 1931 to Jacob B. and Helen E. (Jones) Hartman. He was a professor of Sociology at Wichita State University, retiring in 1997 as Professor Emeritus after 29 years. He served as department chair for fifteen years. He earned an undergraduate degree at SMS (now MSU) and a Master's and Ph.D in Sociology from the University of Missouri-Columbia. John is preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers; Frank J. and Charles B. Hartman He is survived by his wife of almost sixty years, Norma J.; a brother Fred E. Hartman; a sister, Mary Katherine (Hartman) Crawford (Charles K.); nine very special nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with funeral services to follow at 11:30 a.m. in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial will be private in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
