Deweese
October 4, 1927 – January 27, 2019
He was born October 4, 1927 in Brunswick, Missouri to Charles Delmar and Alberta DeWeese, and was one of seven children. He graduated from Brunswick High School and attended Moberly Jr. College the years of 1947 and 1948, where his fondest memories were of playing basketball. After college he started his own business with a Standard Oil station in Brunswick until the fall of 1950 when Uncle Sam came calling for a tour of duty that lasted 18 months and included the Korean conflict. He received an honorable discharge from the US Army in 1952 at the rank of Master Sgt.
In October of 1952, he started working for Standard Oil Co. and retired in 1983. In June of 1954 he married the love of his life, Mary "Cis" Strub. In the following years they were blessed with five children: Greg, Greta, Gretchen, Geff and Glen.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary of 63 years and son Greg.
He is survived by: his daughter Greta Detherage and husband Randy, daughter Gretchen Hawkins and husband Phillip, grandsons Christopher Nicodemus and Spencer Hawkins, son Geff DeWeese and wife Joyce, grandsons Justin and Jared DeWeese, son Glen DeWeese, and Greg's children John and Erin DeWeese.
Dad enjoyed playing golf and fishing with his grandkids. He also played a mean game of ping pong with the neighbors on Friday and Saturday nights.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, January 30th, 2019 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church under the care of Gorman- Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial will be at Missouri Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 pm with full military honors. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 29, 2019 from 5-7 pm with a prayer service at 7 pm in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of dad to your favorite VFW Post.
