Obituary

John Carroll, age 91, of Springfield, MO passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Mercy Hospital. John was born on February 28, 1924 in LaMonte, MO, the son of Charles Edgar Carroll and Clara Agnes Carroll. He graduated from Missouri Valley College in Marshall, MO. He served in the Army Air Force in World War II and remained an active reservist retiring as Lt. Colonel with the Air Force in 1984. John was married to Elizabeth (Betty) Carroll (Meyer) on January 20,1948 who preceded him in death on November 23, 2013. He was the owner and president of Rainbow Paint Company in Springfield. John was active in the Knights of Columbus for over 67 years, Springfield Chambers of Commerce, and former city councilman in Sedalia, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two younger brothers; Clarence Carroll and Charles Carroll. He is survived by sons; David and Sandy Carroll of Aiken, SC, Richard and Gail Carroll of Strafford, MO, Brian and Donna Carroll of Ballwin, MO; daughters Catherine and Jim Brazeal of Leawood, KS, Judith and Don Bonney of Lexington, NC; eight grandchildren, four great-granddaughters, many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, in Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Reverend Fergus Monaghan, celebrant, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Burial will be in Missouri Veteran's Cemetery with full military honors at 1 p.m. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities.
