John W. Albert passed away on November 23, 2020 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born to Monte and Lizzie Jane Albert on May 1, 1924 on a farm near Waterloo, IA. John grew up in Jesup, IA. John was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Dale and Donald; two sisters Dorothy Wold and Wilma Jensen. John is survived by his grieving family including two sisters June Ziss and Alberta Laughlin. He is also survived by three children: sons, Christopher John of Springfield, MO; granddaughter Raquisha Webb, Dallas, TX; William Stewart of Springfield, MO; grandsons, Matt, Springfield, MO, Austin, San Antonio, TX; daughter, Anne Marie Saraceno and her husband Tony of Concord, CA; grandsons, John Franco, Sacramento, CA, Joe and wife Jessica; great-grandchild, Alexander, Boise, ID and granddaughter Carly Powell and husband Jeremy, great-grandchild Nora. Also surviving are thirty-five nephews and nieces.
After graduating from high school, John joined the Navy to fight in World War II. Leaving the Navy after the war, he settled in California where he met and married his one and only love Lee Ivone. Together John and Lee planned a family and began the journey of life. Through several jobs as a railroad man and industrial engineer, John traveled to his family home in Iowa to try farming. He sold the farm to his brother and after several different moves to various states he finally ended in Ozark, MO, where he started his career working for Zenith Radio Corporation and helped establish the company in its new home in Springfield, MO. John spent the rest of his life working for Zenith in Springfield, Chicago, and Texas as a plant manager. After retirement John moved back to Springfield with his wife to settle down and enjoy the Ozarks he really loved and to be with his sons Chris and Bill. John's wife, Lee, passed away four years ago, and he continued to enjoy the company of his sons watching football and baseball and sharing in his families' lives in the Ozarks until his recent passing.
Throughout his life, John always relied on his faith to see him through both the hard times and good. John was a devoted husband and father. He was loved and respected by many people and was seen as a person you could go to for help. John fought many battles with his life including surviving the time he was run over by a train. He loved golf and fishing. He loved taking rides through the country and watching the fall colors and spring flowers.
Visitation is on Thursday December 3, 2020 from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church 1415 S. Holland, Springfield, MO. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial will be at Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Lake Springfield. The family requests that everyone wear a mask to the services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made for the family to Trinity Lutheran's food bank.
