IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joe W.
Newburn, Jr.
April 15, 1965 – May 28, 2022
Joe W. Newburn Jr. was born April 15, 1965, in St. Louis, MO. He was the elder son to Joe W. Newburn Sr. and Dietrich L. Newburn. He entered into rest May 28, 2022.
Joe has always been the guy next door that everyone wanted to know. He could build a bike better than Schwinn. He could build a hot rod as if he some day would be in Nascar. This was all before moving to Springfield at the young age of 15. Somewhere along the line, he inherited the name, JoJo. I guess that was for the double trouble. Joe loved cars, especially Cadillacs. If you saw him on a bicycle back in the day, you would have thought it was a Cadillac. He would have so much stuff on his bike that the police told him, and I quote, "if you put one more thing on your bike you are going to have to tag it." That's not all, Joe was so good at rigging stuff, that we had the radio station from St. Louis with a car battery and God knows what else. He had free cable before you could get free cable.
Joe went to Hickory Hills when he first moved to Springfield. He and his brother Donald both attended the same school. The principal asked his mom if she could buy them tennis shoes and jeans because dress shoes and slacks were too fancy. Joe later went on to further his education at Hillcrest High School. Later he moved to Lawton, Oklahoma, only to return to Springfield, MO a few years later.
Joe is preceded in death by his father, Joe W. Newburn Sr.
He is survived by his mother, Dietrich Johnson; children, April Martin, Lead Hill, AR, Jeremy Harper, Michael Adkins, D'Ante Newburn, and Isaiah Newburn, all of Springfield; siblings, Donald Sr. and Christerphine Newburn, Charleston, SC, Charlotte Bell, St. Louis, MO, Monica Terry, Tyrone Newburn, and Lakeshia Newburn, all of Springfield; a host of grandkids, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Also surviving is a special long-time friend, Lysandra Harmon.
