Joann Louise Spurgeon, age 90, of Ozark, Missouri, was sung into heaven by her family on August 7, 2021.
Joann was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on August 12, 1930. She graduated from Southwest High School in St. Louis, Missouri, and received a BA in Religious Education from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri.
Joann spent her life in service to her precious Savior and others as a missionary to Taiwan, pastor's wife, first lady of SBU, preschool director, volunteer for numerous churches and philanthropic organizations, mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother and loving friend. Joann received the Life Service Award from SBU.
Joann Long married her college sweetheart, Harlan E. Spurgeon, and they would have celebrated their 70 th wedding anniversary September 1. Throughout their lives together, Harlan reported Joann was God's great gift to him. The love they shared filled their home and blessed their family. Joann is survived by her husband Harlan Spurgeon and her four children: Tim (Susan) Spurgeon, of Columbia, Missouri, Twila (Derald) Harris, of Bridgeton, Missouri, Ruth (Roger) Eason, of Overland Park, Kansas and Debbie (Doug) Cumbie, of Nicholasville, Kentucky. She is also survived by her five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who share beautiful memories of special times spent with grandma.
A visitation is scheduled for Saturday, August 21 st , 2021, at 10:00 AM at University Heights Baptist Church. Funeral will follow at 11:00 AM in the church, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to University Heights Baptist Church Foundation, 1010 S. National Ave., Springfield, MO 65804.
