IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joan
Sevey
July 9, 1952 – September 29, 2020
Joan Elaine Sevey, 68, of Springfield, MO, formerly of Cedar Falls, IA, was born to Oliver and Lillian Einertson on July 9, 1952 in a small town in eastern Colorado and departed this world on September 29, 2020 dur to complications of Leukemia.
Joan was raised in Genoa, CO, and at 18 months old became big sister to Susan, her only sibling and life-long best friend. She joined 4-H at age 8, and by age 12 was baby-sitting and waitressing on weekends at the local café. She was drum majorette of the high school band, sang in girl's mixed chorus, played clarinet in the concert band and took piano lessons from age 5 thru her senior year of high school. She loved all kinds of music and learned to dance by watching American Bandstand every afternoon with her mom and Susan.
Joan graduated from high school in 1970 with 13 kids in her class. Six of her classmates have passed away and are waiting in Heaven to celebrate their 50 th class reunion.
Joan's life passion was taking care of others, and she worked in various capacities as an RN, including 10 years in ICU; Director of nursing in long-term care facilities; developing and coordinating a cholesterol screening program for the American Red Cross; cardiac patient education and, prior to retiring, worked at QPS Biokinetics in pharmaceutical research. She loved all aspects of nursing and medicine, and had a constant hunger to learn more.
Joan was also creative and was accomplished in matting and framing and was owner of a home-based business, Picture Perfect by Joan, where she framed hundreds of pictures and memorabilia for friends and family.
She loved gardening, sports, floating the beautiful rivers of Missouri and Arkansas in her pink kayak; playing shuffleboard, golfing, reading and her recent obsession with knitting. She loved riding on the back of a motorcycle and driving her convertible with the top down, her hot tub on chilly nights and spending time with family and friends. She made friends easily, cherished these relationships, and if you were a true friend you were part of her family and owned a part of her heart.
Joan was a member of Schweitzer Methodist Church, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Southwest Missouri Chapter of the Well Armed Women and the Eagles #3934 Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her father Oliver, both sets of grandparents, 12 aunts and uncles and 3 cousins.
She is survived by her son, Shane (Toni); grandchildren Keylee, Chandler and Abbi of Highlandville, MO; mother, Lillian of Genoa, CO; sister, Susan (Steve) Andersen; nephew, Tyler (Jodi) Andersen; niece, Leigh Anna Andersen, all of Arriba, CO; aunts Carol Jones of Genoa and Carol Einertson of Aurora, CO; great nieces Reese and Bailey, numerous cousins; ex-husband, Gary Sevey and step-daughters Megan and Emily, her beloved sisters of Xi Alpha Gamma and her ever-faithful and constant companion of 14 years, her fur baby Dolly.
Joan worked hard all of her life, played hard when she had the opportunity and if she loved you it was with her whole heart. She thanks you for being a part of her life.
