Joan Rice Harvates, age 83, of Springfield, MO passed away on March 20, 2015. She was born March 29, 1931 in Fort Worth, Texas. Joan was raised in Springfield, MO by her parents Anne and Earle Rice. She graduated from Burge School of Nursing and Drury College. Her pastimes included reading, classic movies, and taking care of her cats. Joan also enjoyed helping the community by volunteering with Foster Grandparents, Friends of the Zoo, and sponsoring two girls with Children International. She is survived by her two daughters, Janet Swearengin and Kim Westervelt (David) and grandchild, Kristin Zwickl (Brad). Funeral services will be held at 10 am Wednesday, March 25, 2015 in St. John's Episcopal Church with the Reverend David Kendrick officiating. Burial will follow in Hazelwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 24, 2015 from 6 to 8 pm in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to C.A.R.E. Animal Rescue, P.O.
