Chrisman
July 28, 1931 – July 23, 2018
Joan S. Chrisman, age 86, of Springfield, MO passed away at Mercy Hospital on July 23, 2018 after a lengthy illness.
Jo was one of seven children born to Fred and Loma Schupbach. She grew up on the family farm in Highlandville, MO. She was the salutatorian of her graduating class at Spokane High School in 1948. She attended Southwest Missouri State and was a member of Tri Sigma Sorority. Joan married Richard N. Chrisman on March 22, 1950. Jo and Dick lived in Clever, MO where Dick was a high school basketball coach and principal. They later moved to Springfield where Dick entered into business.
Twin daughters, Jen and Jan, were born in 1953, and Annie was born in 1961. Jo was devoted to raising her girls and supporting their activities. She was a Camp Fire Girls Leader, PTA volunteer, and loved entertaining and hosting pool parties for the girls' friends. Jo loved traveling with Dick and spending winters in Venice, Florida.
She was a longtime member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and Hickory Hills Country Club, where she loved playing golf with Bill and Lucy Magers.
Jo is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Kennally and Topper Glass, Jan Sederholm, and Anne and Dave Pinter; grandson, Kevin Clark; granddaughters, Lauren and Todd Mackin, and Kate Kennally; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by Dick in 2006; and her parents; and brothers and sisters: Imogene Young; Hazel Phipps; Mary Gahagen; Ward, Fritz and Carl Schupbach.
The family wishes to thank Drs. Mohan Tummala and Madhu Pendurthi.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 26, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date.
