Mary Joan Berlin passed away in Springfield, MO on September 26, 2020. Joan was born to Clifton and Dorothy Dennis on June 2, 1931 in Trenton, MO. She grew up in Trenton and Pattonsburg, MO and resided in Springfield since 1974.

She was married to James Berlin and, although this marriage ended in divorce, they established a caring friendship in recent years. Joan attended the University of Missouri and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Southwest Missouri State College (now Missouri State University). She worked for many years at the Missouri State Division of Family Services in Springfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Doris Jean Blattner, her daughter Connie Berlin Thomas and her son-in-law Steve McLean.

Joan is survived by daughter Cheryl Fielding, son-in-law Steve Fielding, son-in-law Chuck Thomas, daughter Cathy McLean, son Robert Berlin and his wife, Nancy Berlin. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Joan enjoyed reading, music and playing bridge and was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a sweet, kind and gentle woman who loved and was deeply loved by her family.

Private family services will be held at a later date under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
